The
Right Reverend Johncy Itty, Ph.D., is currently the
ninth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, where he serves as chief
pastor to more than 22,000 Episcopalians in 76 churches throughout Western Oregon.
Bishop Itty’s portfolio includes a
number of activities related to human rights, economic justice, and
international economic issues. Bishop Itty also previously served as the human
rights officer in the Anglican Communion office at the United Nations, an
office of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglican Consultative Council.
In this position he had been involved in advocacy work in the field of human
rights, international affairs and global economics, for the provinces, dioceses,
and member churches of the Anglican Communion.
Bishop Itty holds advanced graduate degrees from Columbia University, New
York, the City University of New York, and completed
his theological training at New York Theological Seminary. Bishop Itty has
served as a research consultant at United Nations
Headquarters in New York, and has represented
the Anglican UN Office at the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva.
Bishop
Itty is married to Dr. Jolly Itty and has two daughters, Julie and Jennifer,
who attend Oregon Episcopal School in Portland.

Born in Singapore, 'JT'( as his students call him, alias Sunnyachen) grew up in the Mar Thoma
background. Moving to Kerala, Punnavely, at a young age of 10, brought up by his maternal
grandparents and uncle, Dr. Thomas completed his entire education upto the Masters in Economics in Kerala.
Drawn by the call of God, he trained himself to be a theological educator-his passion of life is the challenge of
mentoring young lives and encouraging God's people. Ordained in the Madhya Kerala Diocese of the CSI(1982)
Studied theology in Serampore, Harvard and Oxford Universities and travels widely as an 'ecumenical evangelist'
sharing in non-episcopal and secular contexts. He is married with three children-aged 23,20 and 14, the youngest a daughter. His wife, (Emily) of missionary parents, is a theological graduate and serves at UBS. Achen is currently a professor in Christian Social Ethics at the Union Biblical Seminary, Pune, Maharashtra, North India
